What does ergonomics mean?
The term “ergonomics” is derived from two Greek words: “ergon”, meaning work and “nomoi”, meaning natural laws. Ergonomists study human capabilities in relationship to work demands.
Ergonomics is becoming a commonplace word, especially in the office environment. By itself, the word ergonomics refers to the study of designing objects, such as chairs, keyboards, and workstations, to be well adapted to the form of the human body. Ergonomics can be applicable in many jobs, but it is growing more and more important in the office environment.
The terms computer ergonomics and office ergonomics are pretty much interchangeable. They refer to using well-designed ergonomic chairs, desks, keyboards, etc. -- basically everything you use when working at the computer -- that promotes good posture and good work habits.
